Cat Brutalized by Coyotes and worse ways to go

We’ve had a feral cat in the yard for the last few years. Yesterday, while working on my sprinklers I found the remains of a small black animal, at first I thought it was a rabbit, but looking further I found the head and body of a cat about 10 feet away. While I’m sure death was quick in coming it’s disturbing how the parts where spread out several feet in all directions.

Give up lizard! it’s over.
I’m sure my cat would benefit mentally from going outside, but there really is no other sensible choice but to keep him inside.

It made me think about The ways that death can occur.  Here’s some ways for you to ponder, and possibly enjoy!

Being torn apart by wild animals, zombies, cannibals

Victory of Faith, painting by Saint George Hare, 1891
Nothing to see here! Just some Christians who will be fed to lions.

Apparently, according to classical art, being a beautiful naked woman was a feature of damnatio ad bestias the practice of feeding people to animals in public in ancient Rome. A bear or lion attack may be over very quickly. There is the possibility that a bear or mountain lion could start in while you bleed out, like maybe 10 – 15 minutes.   If this news will ruin your sleep on your next camping trip get some bear spray

Radiation Sickness

Exposure to high levels of radiation can cause a slow and agonizing death with symptoms such as vomiting, diarrhea, hemorrhage, fever, and skin blistering.  On the morning of Sept. 30, 1999, at a nuclear fuel-processing plant in Tokaimura, Japan, 35-year-old Hisashi Ouchi and two other workers were purifying uranium oxide to make fuel rods for a research reactor. The workers caused a spill which resulted in complete chromosomal destruction to every cell in Ouchi’s body. Ouchi, endured horrific suffering over 87 days with his organs failing and skin “melting off” before dying. There are images on the internet, if you really really have to. Don’t ask me, this isn’t goatse. The good part is that you are unlikely to experience this level of exposure to radiation unless you take a job at a nuclear facility.  If caught in a nuclear attack your best best is to be inside. It may be best to be at ground zero.

Here’s a new word for your scabble game vivisepulture.
Also, Taphophobia, the fear of being buried alive, is reported to be among the most common phobias.
According to Shane McCorristine, one of the purposes of an Irish wake, was to ensure that the person was definitely dead.
You probably saw Kill Bill where the Bride made it out of a grave. Your best unlikely chance is to dig your way out displacing the dirt as you go up, other wise you might suffer until you run out of air. A mentally bad ending.
75 Worst Ways to Die: A Guide to the Ways in Which We Go (book Paperback) 6-30-25 I haven’t read it, let me know how it is.

A death mask was made of Marie Antoinette by Madam Tussaud while the grave was being dug. Security was different those days.

Drowning, Beheading, Hanging

I believe in reincarnation, I may have drowned in a previous life. I don’t remember much except some sort of initial panic.
I’ve heard that heads detached from bodies blink and look around for a few (seconds? minutes? hours?)

It’s possible after the initial shock and lack of blood pressure or air you might you might get a chance to look around, pain at this point seems unlikely.

Crucifixion, Impalement

The length of time required to reach death from crucifixion could range from hours to days depending on method, the victim’s health, and the environment. Often crucifixion accompanied scourging (whipping), beating or tearing of the beard and other punishments. Roman soldiers might break the legs of a crucified person to speed up the process.
With impalement, depending on the implement used could last up a few days depending on how the body was impaled and how the stake was inserted: If it went into the “interior” parts, vital organs could easily be damaged, leading to a swift death. However, by letting the stake follow the spine, the impalement procedure would not damage the vital organs, and the person could survive for several days. My research discovered many many  creative ways to hang up a person, I’ll stop here and return to the topic of ways to die some other time.  Happy dreams!
